Oak Grove Baptist Church
by Matthew Meaux
When I joined this ministry in August, I knew that I would undoubtedly see God work in mighty ways. However, no matter how many disciple now weekends, Sunday morning worship services or any other form of ministry event we attend, I find myself constantly left in awe of the way God had shown up in each of the different events. Not once have I walked away from a weekend saying, “I guess this was a typical weekend of ministry with Glowing Heart.” However, each weekend I’ve walked away with my expectations broken, and my self conceived limitations of ministry shattered by the way that God makes his presence evident. This Thursday, Glowing Heart had a unique opportunity to lead to chapel services at First Baptist Academy in Dallas, for the elementary and middle school classes. We first met the elementary students, and it was truly a blessing to be in the company of so many elementary kids. They each had such a sweet spirit, and each of them participated with tremendous attitudes. Our group has never seen so many signers in one room, and it was such a great sight to be seen. We then met the middle school students. Now, being at First Baptist Academy, we were in an environment in which we could have been foolishly deceived that everyone there had a personal relationship with Christ Jesus, yet we saw several students accept Christ on that morning. What a great reminder it was that we should never assume the status of one’s relationship with Christ, there are still people in our churches, and in the midst of us that have grown up hearing of such a great love, yet have never truly grasped it. We then left for Nacogdoches on Saturday. This was to be yet, another out of the ordinary weekend for us. As Nacogdoches is the home of Stephen F. Austin University, we were going to be ministering to a college heavy congregation. We normally focus on 6th-12th grade students, so this was a bit different, as we were ministering to our peers, and to the people that were dealing with the same kinds of stresses that we are walking through ourselves. What a great time it was. When we arrived, and had met the students; we were able to establish relationships immediately. We saw two students come to Christ that night, and we joined along with heaven in celebrating. This Thursday, Saturday and Sunday once again left me humbled and grateful to be able to be a part of God’s mighty works. Being a member of Glowing Heart continuously teaches me that my expectations of what God may do are useless, as each and every time God has greater things in store for his people, than I could ever imagine.
