Scurry/Kaufman Disciple Now Weekend
by Christine Musgrove
It was with great anticipation that Glowing Heart traveled to Kaufman/Scurry for a D-Now! It was our last big event for the semester and we wanted to finish strong and conclude with a bang! For me, it was my one year anniversary with Glowing Heart and I couldn’t wait to be with the people who had helped reveal my calling to the group and reunite with those who hold a very special place in my life! One thing that is so remarkable about the Kaufman/Scurry D-Now is that it is a compilation of church youth groups. Yet in no way is it obvious that the youth are not of the same church - such an awesome picture of the one body of Christ! The moment Glowing Heart entered the church, the sense that we too are family was overwhelming. From the church staff to the youth to the host families to the church members we met Sunday morning, everyone was so inviting and loving. With that, the rest of the weekend’s pace was set. Energy was high, spirits were eager, ears were open, and of course, the Holy Spirit was moving. We were all so blessed by the people of Kaufman/Scurry! For me, getting to spend time studying the Word of God with the girls, talking about life, praying, and of course, having a talent show, was very encouraging! There was a very real sense of joy and trust in the Lord among the youth; even amidst questions and sometimes tears, it was clear that at the end of the day, they know Who holds their hand and is always there with them! Many times it is the Saturday night worship service that is the breaking point for everyone to be humbled before the Lord, ready for His healing and renewing, but this D-Now, though the worship night proved very impacting, it was amazing to me to see hearts already being changed the very first night we were there! My prayer is that the youth of Kaufman/Scurry will continue steadfast in their faith, boldly declaring the Lord in their schools, families, and community! I pray that their fire would spread to the surrounding communities and beyond, a steady flame of truth and commitment. The Kaufman/Scurry D-Now was definitely a highlight of the semester!
