Who We Are…
Glowing Heart Ministries is a non-profit, parachurch organization focused on youth ministry and evangelism. We as a ministry exist and strive to nurture and equip this generation of youth to become holy in heart and righteous in life. For the unbelievers we encounter, we desire to bring them to a place of understanding their need to embrace Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. For the believers we minister to, we seek to encourage them not to grow weary in well-doing, because in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Glowing Heart was started 30 years ago on a day like any other at Dallas Baptist University’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The phones rang as potential students and interested parents called for information. A young admissions counselor was speaking with a representative of a church when the question was posed, “Do you have a revival team that could come and lead worship as well as offer preaching?” From that point, the Lord began to work in that young admissions counselor’s heart, and Henry Loftin was given the vision for a team of students that would travel – leading worship and teaching God’s Word. It would be an ongoing team of young people whose greatest desire was to share with others about Christ and what He had done in their lives through music and preaching.
Henry read in Matthew 5:15, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” From this verse he envisioned the group as glowing. He came across another verse, 2 Corinthians 4:6, which states, “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made His light shine in our h
earts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.” From these two verses came the name Glowing Heart.
And so, Glowing Heart was brought to fruition. Through the vision given to Henry Loftin, and through his obedience to the Lord’s leading, Glowing Heart became a reality. In April of 1988, Glowing Heart held its first audition. Of the twelve people who auditioned, eight became members of the very first Glowing Heart ministry team. By May, Glowing Heart’s schedule was booked for a full year. The very first concert was a three-day revival held at First Baptist Church in Willis Point, TX. That first year’s schedule consisted of 130 concerts during which there were 45 recorded salvations.Glowing Heart has come a long way since its first year. We treasure our 18 years at Dallas Baptist University and owe a great debt of gratitude to the many friends we have there. In 2006, God made a way and opened a door for Glowing Heart Ministries to step out and become an independent ministry organization. Over the passed 30 years, we have travelled over 1 million miles, led over 5,000 worship services and events to a quarter of a million people, witnessed over 10,000 salvations, ministered in 14 different countries and 13 different states, and have seen over 250 college students serve in Glowing Heart as members.
Today, Glowing Heart’s ministry is far-reaching and varied. During the school year, we lead Disciple Now events at churches all around Texas and Louisiana, one in Oklahoma and one in Arkansas. We also run a youth center, CoffeeStop, across the street from South Grand Prairie High School in South Park Baptist Church. In the end of June, we are taking a trip to lead a revival in Missoula, Montana for the second year. Finally, in the summer we host a youth leadership camp, PaceSetters™ Leadership Camp, at our retreat center (Focus Pointe Base Camp) we acquired in 2005. This past summer (2017), marks the 21st year PaceSetters™ has been held.
We have a rich history here in Glowing Heart thanks to God’s provision and power. It is for God’s glory that we do what we do and He has done some incredible things through Glowing Heart.
“Not to us, oh Lord, not to us. But to your name be all the glory; because of your love and faithfulness.” –Psalm 115:1
